The British Sporting Art Trust was founded in 1977 with the objective of assembling a collection of sporting art for public exhibition and to promote interest in the subject. The Trust has a comprehensive library and archive open to researchers. It publishes two pamphlet monographs each year on a particular artist or sporting subject, and two newsletters. These publications are also sent to Friends of Sporting Art members around the world.

Since its foundation, the BSAT has strived to create a permanent art gallery dedicated to sporting art. It is now located in the renovated palace of Charles II in Newmarket, England where it is housed as part of the Fred Packard Museum and Galleries for Sporting Art. The facility is known as the Heritage Centre for Horse Racing and Sporting Art and also houses the National Horse Racing and Retraining of Racehorses Charity. www.bsat.co.uk
